The tank management prime at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in Washington state is shopping for a subcontractor to provide containers for immobilized low-activity radioactive waste produced by the new vitrification plant.
Amentum-led Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) posted a request for proposals (RFP) notice Wednesday on the federal procurement website SAM.gov. A pre-proposal conference is scheduled on Feb. 7 and offers from interested subcontractors expected by 4 p.m. Pacific Time on Feb. 27.
Between 2023 and 2025 the DOE is expected to start converting low-level radioactive waste into a solidified glass form at the Direct Feed Low Activity Waste at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant being built by Bechtel.
The containers will be custom fabricated according to specifications from the Waste Treatment Plant, according to WRPS.
WRPS will vet the bidders’ technical capabilities and qualifications as well as its pricing. The prime will look at past performance especially on stainless steel fabrications. The subcontract should include provisions for storage of all items up to one year following completion of fabrication, according to the solicitation.
A pre-proposal conference via Microsoft Teams is set for 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Feb. 7 and prospective offerors should inform WRPS Feb. 6 of the specific people who will be participating in the conference.
