Wright is NRC chair hours after Trump’s swearing in

By ExchangeMonitor

President Donald Trump (R) on Monday made David Wright the chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Wright was one of a large number of designations the White House announced in a statement mere hours after Trump took the oath of office for the second time.

Wright succeeds Christopher Hanson, who had been chairman for much of President Joe Biden’s (D) term.

Wright’s term expires June 30. He was nominated by Trump during the latter’s first administration in 2018. Trump had not nominated anyone for an NRC term as of Monday afternoon.

Barring resignations, the majority of members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be Democratic appointees for most of Trump’s second term. In the final days of the 118th Congress, Senate Democrats used their lame-duck majority to confirm Matthew Marzano as a commissioner.
