IN CONGRESS

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is scheduled to consider the nomination of Elizabeth Robinson as the new Under Secretary of Energy for Management and Performance next week. The panel’s hearing will be held Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 366 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building in Washington. The under secretary position, created as part of a DOE reorganization announced in July, oversees the Department’s offices of Environmental Management and Legacy Management, as well as several other support offices. Robinson currently serves as NASA’s Chief Financial Officer, and has also previously held positions at the White House Office of Management and Budget and the Congressional Budget Office, among others.

NRG Energy’s W.A. Parish power plant in eastern Texas, the site of a planned 250 MW carbon carbon capture and storage demonstration project being co-funded by the Department of Energy, ranked among the top five dirtiest coal plants nationwide, according to a report released this week by Environment America. The group surveyed the country’s largest coal plants based on Energy Information Administration data and found that Texas, Ohio and Florida are the country’s highest-emitting states.
