IN THE INDUSTRY
Solidia Technologies will receive $752,000 from the National Energy Technology Laboratory to further research and development in the company’s carbon reducing cement and concrete processes, Solidia announced late last week. The project hopes to create an alternative type of cement that would allow for the storage of CO2 within the material itself. "Successful commercialization of Solidia Concrete technology would benefit national efforts to reduce carbon emissions," said NETL Carbon Storage Technology Manager Traci Rodosta in a Solidia press release this week. "Using CO2 rather than emitting the greenhouse gas to the atmosphere is a win-win situation. This project illustrates the potential of the Solidia technology to reduce CO2 emission in the near term, as we continue investigating further solutions as part of the President’s ‘all of the above’ energy strategy."
