ON THE INTERNATIONAL FRONT

The University of Hull in the United Kingdom received £1.27 million this week to advance ongoing research into carbon capture technology. The grant was awarded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to a consortium consisting of researchers from Imperial College London, the University of Leeds and Newcastle University and led by the University of Hull’s Dr Meihong Wang. According to a release issued by the University of Hull, research to be conducted with the grant money will compound on previous research from the consortium which found that “removal of CO2 from flue gas using conventional packed columns is highly inefficient.” Moving forward the researchers aim to “design and operate a new ‘rotating packed bed’ (RPB) system that spins at hundreds of times per minute, greatly improving the capacity and efficiency of CO2 separation,” according to the release.
