The state of Washington will conduct a search for a new manager of the Department of Ecology’s Nuclear Waste Program. Jane Hedges, who has held the position for nearly a decade, has announced her retirement, effective at the end of February. She has worked in the Nuclear Waste Program since 1999. The program manager is based in the Tri-Cities near Hanford and is responsible for carrying out the state’s role in overseeing Hanford Site cleanup as a regulator and party to the Tri-Party Agreement. Hedges gave the state nearly four months’ notice to allow some overlap with her replacement, she said.
