Bechtel Nuclear, Security & Environmental Inc. and its subsidiaries have received a three-year recertification under the International Organization for Standardization 9001-2008 standard, Bechtel announced this week. In a press release, Bechtel said the certification is “the global industry standard for quality management in corporations and organizations and provides companies with criteria to meet customer needs. Certification involves a demanding audit of multiple company locations.” For Bechtel, it applies most directly to the company’s work on the Waste Treatment Plant at the Hanford Site and in its commercial nuclear operations. “Meeting this standard is a direct reflection of the commitment and effectiveness of our people applying our procedures to meet our client’s goals and expectations,” Craig Albert, president of Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental global business unit, said in the release. “It confirms Bechtel’s dedication to customer focus at all levels and executing processes to ensure continual improvement of each function within the company.”
IN OAK RIDGE
The Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management is taking applications through Sept. 30 for volunteer positions on the Oak Ridge Site Specific Advisory Board. Established in 1995, the panel has a maximum of 22 members who offer “recommendations to the agency regarding cleanup activities across the Oak Ridge Reservation” in Tennessee, according to a DOE press release. “The board and its EM/Stewardship Committee meet monthly to discuss and develop recommendations on cleanup decisions and topics such as cleanup strategies, hazardous waste management, and long-term stewardship,” the release states. “The board also reviews the Environmental Management program’s planning decisions and cleanup-related documents. All ORSSAB meetings and its committees are open to the public.” Board members are not required to have technical knowledge of cleanup issues. They are eligible to serve up to three two-year terms. Applications can be found on the board website at www.energy.gov/orssab, or be requested by telephone at (865) 241-4583 or 241-4584.
