Following the revelation last week that the confidential personal information of millions was breached in a cyber-security event months ago, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has advised that “Department of Energy employee data has potentially been compromised in this incident,” according to a June 4 message to employees. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management is notifying about 4 million people between June 8 and June 19 whose personal information may have been vulnerable in the event, Moniz said. “Following this incident, OPM took immediate action to implement additional security measures in order to protect the sensitive personnel data it manages,” the message states. “This incident reminds us all of the seriousness of the cyber threats that we face and the importance of vigilance in protecting our systems and data.”
