National Security Technologies (NSTec), the managing contractor for the Nevada National Security Site, said this week that acting President James Holt would take the position on a permanent basis.
Holt has been acting president since November 2015 and previously served in various positions within the company, including as vice president for operations, vice president for program integration, and director of defense experimentation and stockpile stewardship. Before joining NSTec, Holt served as a science adviser to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and associate director for operations at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. NSTec develops, tests, and deploys technologies at the Nevada National Security Site in support of the NNSA mission.
National Security Technologies is also seeking sources for the fabrication of steel confinement vessels to be used by NSTec and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in joint experiments at the Nevada site, according to an announcement posted this week.
The subcontractor will produce up to six 6-foot diameter spherical confinement vessels, “a credited safety system in a nuclear facility used for the execution of dynamic experiments involving special nuclear material,” according to the construction specifications. The vessel will feature a 2.5-inch minimum wall thickness and five access ports, and will be made of HSLA-100 steel, “a high strength and fracture tough alloy,” the specifications said.
The subcontractor will also be required to maintain quality assurance during its fabrication work. Responses are due by March 7.
