Navy Cmdr. Vinny Wood, was temporarily removed from his assignment as Executive Officer of the Trident Refit Facility (TRF) at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay (Ga.) after allegedly violating a Military Protective Order issued against him on Aug. 21 over claims of an “unduly familiar relationship” with an unnamed individual, TRF spokesman Mark Turney said in an email. TRF Commander Navy Capt. Gunter Braun had “thought it prudent, based on existing information” to issue the order which prohibited Wood to contact the protected individual. After the violation allegations arose, Braun reassigned Wood to Submarine Group 10, pending outcome of the investigation. Turney said Braun has not put a time limit on the investigation. “What is of greater importance, in this case, is that the investigation be thorough, accurate and fair to all parties involved,” Turney wrote.

Y-12/Pantex contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security is partnering with the University of Tennessee on a new graduate-level engineering program to enhance its fire protection expertise, CNS announced this week. “The Graduate Certificate Program in Fire Protection Engineering gives employees new educational and career opportunities while improving the CNS enterprise’s fire protection capabilities,” the announcement states. “Twenty?five CNS employees from a cross-section of organizations are acquiring critical skills in fire protection engineering while earning graduate-level credit.” UT offered four graduate-level courses this summer. “This special compressed program is intense,” said Y-12 Fire Protection Engineering Manager David Greer. “In a one?week period, the students get a semester’s worth of time in class, plus two weeks for homework and a term paper. In three weeks, they’ll complete a graduate-level engineering course but will only be away from the plant for four days. The format is very demanding, but it is the only way many of the participants would ever have time available to take these courses.”
