IN CONGRESS
Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power, will not seek re-election at the end of his current term, the congressman’s office announced this week. Whitfield, a staunch opponent of the Obama administration’s climate change agenda, is serving his 11th term, which will end in January 2017. “While many Americans are frustrated with the institution of Congress, I still believe that politics is a worthy vocation and I know many men and women of character will always be willing to serve,” Whitfield said in a press release announcing his decision. Whitfield said his greatest achievements include “promoting the utilization of our abundant fossil fuels.”
