IN THE INDUSTRY

Boundary Dam, the first of its kind post-combustion coal-fired carbon capture and sequestration facility, has been named coal “Project of the Year” by Power Engineering and Renewable Energy World Magazines. The project, owned by SaskPower, is located in Saskatchewan, Canada, and is estimated to capture 90 percent of the facility’s carbon emissions. Regardless of its first-of-a-kind status, the Boundary Dam project experienced few delays or cost overruns though the course of its construction. “We are proud of what we’ve accomplished, with hundreds of specialists and dozens of Saskatchewan companies employed to launch this world-first. This is a responsible investment in sustainable electricity generation, and into the power future of the entire province,’ SaskPower acting President and CEO Mike Marsh said in a release this week.
