IN THE INDUSTRY

An Alabama state court issued a temporary restraining order late last week against former Kemper County Energy Facility Project Manager Brett Wingo barring him from talking about the project. Wingo was sued by Southern Co. on Feb. 19 under accusations that he went back on a previous settlement ending his employment. Under the agreement Wingo also agreed to keep confidential “any information concerning events which occurred during the course of Mr. Wingo’s employment.” According to the suit, after agreeing to the terms of the settlement, Wingo stated his intention to renege on the initial agreement.

ON THE INTERNATIONAL FRONT

India will double its coal production tax from Rs 100 ($1.60) to Rs 200 ($3.21) per tonne of coal in its annual budget, Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley announced late last week. India is the world’s third largest emitter of carbon following China and the United States. Funds collected through the tax are put into the National Clean Energy Fund and are used to fund clean energy projects.
