Many workers at the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site near Richland, Wash., were sent home early Thursday evening due to a snowstorm that hit parts of Washington and Oregon, the Tri-City Herald reported.
The chance of continued snow showers lingers through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
Perma-Fix Environmental Services has hired Troy Eshleman, who has more than 34 years of experience in managing radioactive waste and decommissioning projects, to the newly-created position of chief operating officer.
Eshleman was previously president of Oakleaf Environmental and held numerous senior management roles at EnergySolutions, Perma-Fix said in a Jan. 30 press release. “We’re looking forward to having him on board to help us capitalize on new opportunities, strengthen our position with customers, and create more value for our shareholders,” said Perma-Fix CEO Mark Duff.
Perma-Fix is a Department of Energy contractor with environmental contracts at the Hanford Site in Washington state, the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and elsewhere.
A major Department of Energy contractor recently added a new member to its board of directors, while a much-used smaller contractor in the weapons complex announced the retirement of one of its managers. Idaho-based North Wind Group said Jan. 30 that Linda Beach, the company’s project manager office director, has retired.
Beach has been affiliated with North Wind projects for 20 years, including DOE’s Transuranic Waste Processing Center at the Oak Ridge Site in Tennessee, North wind said in a Jan. 30 press release. North Wind much cleanup work for DOE, including an ongoing $613 million contract for Remediation of the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Project in Utah.
Meanwhile, Irving, Texas-based Fluor has added Charles (Chip) Blankenship Jr., to the government contractor’s board of directors effective March 1. Blankenship is chair and CEO of Woodward, an energy control solutions company, Fluor said in a Feb. 6 press release.
