China’s Defense Ministry said it test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into international waters Wednesday, media such as the Wall Street Journal and BBC reported.
The ICBM was carrying a dummy warhead, WSJ said. The launch was the first in over 40 years, but according to Beijing it was “routine.”
While Chinese media said it gave “relevant countries” notice, Japan, Australia and New Zealand told BBC they had not received notice from China.
The International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors elected Ambassador Philbert Abaka Johnson as the board’s chairperson for a one-year term in 2024-2025, the agency said in a press release Monday.
Johnson has previously chaired Subsidiary Body III of the Tenth Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and currently co-chairs preparations for the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme in 2024.
Johnson has 30 years of experience as a career diplomat, the release said. He is the permanent representative of Ghana currently, and has served Ghana missions in Switzerland, the Russian Federation, Belgium, Canada and New York.
The National Nuclear Security Administration and Romania’s National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control celebrated 15 years of partnership last week, a press release by the U.S. agency said.
The NNSA’s Office of Radiological Security held an anniversary event in Bucharest to commemorate the 15-year partnership in “advancing radiological security,” the release said.
“I am confident the next 15 years of cooperation between our two great organizations will be important, and even more impactful,” Jill Hruby, head of NNSA, said at the event.
