The cleanup contractor for the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Reservation in Tennessee said this week it is among a number of agency contractors to be recognized for their safety performance last year.
The National Safety Council in July recognized 51 member entities for “outstanding safety achievements” in calendar year 2016 through the Industry Leader Award.
The honor is part of the council’s Occupational Awards Program. The National Safety Council looks at the rate of accidents and lost-time injuries at participating workplaces. Only the top 5% of members win the recognition, which is based on self-reported data.
URS-CH2M Oak Ridge, or UCOR, announced Monday that it was among the recipients.
“This is yet another in a series of recent awards that recognize UCOR and underscore our commitment to a strong safety culture,” UCOR President and Project Manager Ken Rueter said in a news release.
Other familiar names on the list included a number of subsidiaries of AECOM, parent company to URS; Savannah River Remediation, the liquid waste management provider at DOE’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina; nuclear services provider EnergySolutions; and Atkins.
