The Citizen Task Force for the West Valley Demonstration Project holds a hybrid meeting Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time at Ashford, N.Y.
Registration information is available online for those seeking to watch remotely via Zoom.
A report on the ongoing remediation by the current contractor CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley will be presented by general manager Jason Casper, according to the online agenda. Casper will be staying on in essentially the same role under the new team, BWX Technologies-led West Valley Cleanup Alliance. Jacobs, the parent of CH2M, merged its government contracting and cyber businesses with Virginia-based Amentum last year. Amentum is a junior partner to BWXT in the new team, which started a four-month transition in February.
The West Valley Cleanup Alliance has signed a DOE contract that could run for up to 15 years and be worth up to $3 billion, to perform the next phase of remediation.
The West Valley Demonstration Project, located 35 miles south of Buffalo, N.Y., is owned by New York state and was home to a private nuclear fuel processing plant between 1963 and 1972.
The new contract includes tearing down remaining near- and below-grade components of the Main Plant Process Building and decommissioning other facilities.
