WCS RE-AFFRIRMS ABILITY TO HANDLE VERMONT YANKEE DISPOSAL

Waste Control Specialists re-affirmed its capability to provide disposal for waste from the decommissioning of the Vermont Yankee nuclear facility at the Texas-Vermont Compact Commission meeting yesterday. WCS President Rod Baltzer said at the meeting, “We look forward to working with Entergy, the State of Vermont and the Compact Commission to safely and securely facilitate all the disposal needs associated with Vermont Yankee. We take our responsibility very seriously. It goes to the very mission of this Compact Commission. I can assure you we have plenty of capacity for the decommissioning of this facility.” Entergy announced in late August that the company was closing Vermont Yankee, citing economic reasons for the shut down. Entergy said at the time that it was considering Safstor as a decommissioning process, but it had not decided which direction it would take yet.
