The Department of Energy this week posted virtual site tour documents and other background material on its solicitation for a potential $614-million small business set-aside for the Moab Remedial Action Contract in Utah.
The DOE Office of Environmental Management released its final request for proposals Feb. 11 for the work that includes cleanup of a tailings pile left over from the former Atlas Minerals Corp. uranium-ore processing facility.
No actual site tour is planned due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but a link to various slides and background material on the Moab project in Utah can be found here on the procurement website.
Bid proposals are due by March 29 and questions should be submitted today to [email protected].
Work under the new contract could run up to 15 years if all options are exercised. The new deal would succeed the five-year $187-million contract held by North Wind Portage. The existing agreement is scheduled to expire in September.
The contract entails removing tailings from the old Atlas Moab site in Grand County and moving the material to the engineered Crescent Junction waste disposal facility 30 miles away. The shipments are done mostly by rail. The groundwater at the Moab site must also be remediated.
