The acting director of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s reactor regulation office will become the official head of the program, the agency announced this week.
Andrea Veil, who had been serving as interim head of the Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) office since former director Ho Nieh’s departure in January, was selected to take on the position full-time, according to an agency press release Thursday afternoon.
As NRR chief, Veil oversees “licensing, oversight, rulemaking, and incident response,” the press release said. She’s been at the commission in various capacities since 1992. Before that, Veil worked for Dow Chemical and Detroit Edison in their engineering division, and she holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University.
