Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin last week said he appointed a Dominion Power executive to a commission overseeing disposal of low-level waste by a multistate regional compact.
Youngkin appointed David Wilson, site vice president of Dominion’s Surry Power Station in Surry, Va., to the Southeast Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Compact Commission, according to a Friday press release.
The compact includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Virginia has two active nuclear power plants, both of which Dominion operates: the Surry Power Station, on the banks of the James River about 70 miles southeast by road from the state capital of Richmond, Va., and the North Anna Nuclear Generating Station in Mineral, Va., on the shores of Lake Anna, about 55 miles northwest by road from Richmond.
The Southeast compact allows members to ship low-level waste to EnergySolutions’ disposal site in Clive, Utah and Waste Control Specialists’ facility in Andrews County, Texas.
