USEC TO CONDUCT 100 LAYOFFS NEXT WEEK AT PADUCAH

By ExchangeMonitor

USEC will complete another round of slightly less than100 layoffs at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant next week, after initial layoffs took place in August. Union employees were notified of layoffs starting on Oct. 14, while salaried employees will be notified Oct. 23. The plant operator is cutting employees following a shutdown of enrichment operations at the facility. “The current reductions involve operations, maintenance and a range of support and administrative functions. The plant’s bargaining unit security staff is not affected,” USEC spokesman Jeremy Derryberry said in a written response. He added, “Most of the people involved in the layoff are departing October 23-25. A small number of these layoffs are being delayed until November to coincide with completion of ongoing projects or transition tasks.”
