Though USEC said last month that a government shutdown beyond Oct. 15 would have serious impacts on a Department of Energy program supporting the American Centrifuge Project, USEC says it has enough funding on hand now to last the month. “The American Centrifuge research, development and demonstration program has been incrementally funded throughout the program and we have managed the program to remain under budget,” USEC spokesman Paul Jacobson said in a statement yesterday. “That careful financial management has allowed the program to continue during October using USEC and Department of Energy (DOE) cost-shared funds and the program now has sufficient carryover money and DOE authorization to continue operating through the month of October.”
