USEC took another step toward developing a new management structure yesterday, announcing the departure of two of the company’s vice presidents. Last month USEC said it was launching an effort to improve the company’s organizational structure, which Congressional appropriators have said is a requirement for supporting federal funding for the American Centrifuge Project. Lance Wright, senior vice president of human resources and administration, left his current duties yesterday and will contribute to the company’s organizational structure review effort until he retires in May. His slot has been filled by Richard Rowland, corporate director of human resources. Christine Ciccone, senior vice president of external relations, will leave the company April 13.
The company has already hired a management consulting firm to aid in the reorganization, and hopes that the changes will result in “clear lines of responsibility and fewer layers of management,” according to a USEC release. “USEC is taking the necessary steps to evolve from our legacy operations to position the Company to reduce costs and improve our competitive profile,” CEO John Welch said in a statement. “In this year of transition, we will become a company with a cost structure and staff that is in alignment with the work we have before us. As the company gets smaller, we need to consolidate functions and streamline activities while remaining focused on delivering quality products to our customers.”
