The UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Center (UKCCSRC) announced late this week the allocation of $4.4 million in research funding for 14 CCS-related projects. The projects fall into three categories, carbon capture, carbon storage and CO2 cross cutting, according to a UKCCSRC release. Carbon capture projects were funded at a total of $1.9 million divided among seven projects. Carbon storage funding totaling $680,000 is divided among two projects. Five cross cutting projects were awarded total funding of $1.8 million.

The 14 research projects will involve nine different UK universities and two will include collaboration with Australia and China. “It is great to have the UKCCSRC’s own research portfolio now fully under way. Our big tasks for the next three years of the Centre’s life will be to see these projects executed successfully and to link them, and all the academic research supported by the Research Councils, DECC and other funders, to maximize their value for supporting future CCS delivery,” Jon Gibbins, Director of UKCCSRC, said in the release. This is the second such round of funding by UKCCRC, building onto the 13 projects awarded funding in 2012.
