UCOR REDUCES OAK RIDGE WORKFORCE BY 91

By ExchangeMonitor

Oak Ridge cleanup contractor URS-CH2M Oak Ridge, LLC (UCOR), laid off 91 workers late last week, mainly at the K-25 project, as part of an ongoing workforce restructuring. UCOR has said that it is reducing the workforce as a result of budget constraints at the site under the newly enacted Continuing Resolution, as well as work that is wrapping up on demolition of K-25. “65 building trades workers, 17 staff augmentation subcontractors, and nine other subcontractor personnel—five teamsters and four electricians—were released at the East Tennessee Technology Park Project,” UCOR spokeswoman Fran Smith said in a statement. “The workers were employed predominantly on the K-25 demolition project. These releases are the result of work being completed and the necessity to remain within available funding.” The move comes just a few days after 21 subcontractor employees were let go by the contractor.
