U.S. Envoy Pitching Climate Action in Africa

By ExchangeMonitor

United States Special Envoy for Climate Change Jonathan Pershing is in Africa this week discussing climate action and the Paris Agreement on climate change with leaders in Senegal, Nigeria, and South Africa. Pershing arrived in Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday. He will then travel to Abuja, Nigeria, on Tuesday before capping off his trip Thursday in South Africa, where he will attend meetings in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

During his trip, Pershing will “discuss implementation of the Paris Agreement, and advance climate and clean energy efforts with leaders across Africa ahead of this year’s [United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change] annual climate conference, COP-22, in Marrakesh, Morocco, on November 7-18,” according to a State Department press release.
