U.S. and the Republic of Korea seek to improve nuclear deterrence

By ExchangeMonitor

Leaders from the United States and the Republic of Korea convened in Seoul on Monday with aims to strengthen nuclear deterrence and relations between the two nations, according to a press release from the Department of Defense.

The two nations met with intentions of information sharing, consulting, and joint planning and execution to extend deterrence and protect the Korean Peninsula from any future attacks from North Korea,

The meeting was the third Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG), and was chaired by Dr. Vipin Narang, U.S. acting assistant secretary of defense for space policy, and Dr. Cho Chang Lae, deputy minister for national defense policy in Korea. Officials from the National Security Council, Korea’s security office, and other relevant officials in foreign affairs in both countries also attended the meeting.

The fourth NCG will take place later this year in the United States, according to the press release.
