Two nuclear companies partner up to explore new nuclear fuel cycles

By ExchangeMonitor

Orano USA and Curio announced on April 9 to have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to partner up to create a new pathway in advanced nuclear fuel management.

Orano USA, based in Maryland, and Curio, based in Washington D.C., both specialize in nuclear technology centered around nuclear waste management.

Through the MOU, Orano will leverage its experience in used nuclear fuel recycling to help Curio in the commercialization and development of its NuCycle recycling process, according to the Orano USA spokesperson.

Curio’s NuCycle is the company’s proposed technology that will be used to recycle nuclear waste. The technology is aimed to address the United States’ lack of a reprocessing system, according to the Curio’s website.

Currently, the United States does not have an operating commercial nuclear reprocessing facility.

Orano will use its technology to transport and manage Curio’s nuclear materials for NuCycle as part of the MOU. The two companies will also work to align with other prominent nuclear companies to bring nuclear recycling into the United States, said the company’s April 9 press release.
