Twenty-four peace activists were arrested Saturday after intentionally trespassing on the grounds of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Kansas City Plant. The protest was organized by PeaceWorks, Kansas City to symbolically object to the non-nuclear production plant’s role within the weapons complex. The protesters had said that they would gather outside the gate of the plant’s new home—about eight miles south of its existing home at the Bannister Federal Complex—and crossed the property line of the new facility, which was fully completed in May. A lengthy move that will be finished next year is ongoing. According to PeaceWorks, Kansas City, the arrested protesters were detained by Jackson County Police Department, and some were released over the weekend; some will be released today. A lawyer for the protesters said he would push for a single trial date for the group.
