Tennessee Valley Authority board member Michelle Moore was removed from her role on March 27, at the direction of President Donald Trump, according to a Securities and Exchange Commissions filing.
The firing of Moore comes a week after Tennessee Republican Sens. Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty criticized the direction of TVA in an op-ed piece. The senators called on Trump and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright to take action and “to rescue TVA from itself,” The lawmakers suggested Moore and the board did not adequately support new nuclear technology such as a planned small modular reactor.
Moore is the CEO of Groundswell, a nonprofit clean energy company. She was nominated by former president Joe Biden in the spring of 2021 and her term on the TVA board was scheduled to end May 18, 2026.
She was one of six nominees of Biden’s that were confirmed in January of 2023.
