The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee delayed a nomination hearing for three proposed Nuclear Regulatory Commission commissioners to Tuesday, the panel announced Tuesday afternoon.
The hearing had been scheduled for today. The committee did not say why it postponed the meeting.
When the Committee does get around to the hearing, it will consider the Trump administration’s proposal to nominate Annie Caputo and David Wright to fill two vacant NRC seats, plus renominate current NRC chair Kristine Svinicki for another five-year term. The commission currently has three members, which is the legal minimum required to conduct business.
Svinicki, a commission member since 2008 who was appointed chair soon after Trump office, is rounding out a term set to expire June 30. She is the only current NRC commissioner whose term would expire this year. Without Senate action, NRC would lack a quorum by the end of the month.
