Here are some events related to civilian nuclear matters that Exchange Monitor staff are tracking this week.

29: Hybrid meeting:  The Citizens Advisory Board for the Savannah River Site kicks off a two-day hybrid meeting starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time from the North Augusta Municipal Building, 100 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, South Carolina 29841. Links to the livestream can be found here

30: Online meeting: The Department of Energy Environmental Management Advisory Board meets zia Zoom starting at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. To attend, please register at: https://www.energy.gov/​em/​listings/​emab-meetings and select “EMAB Meeting—July 2024.”

30: Town Hall: DOE’s Carlsbad Field Office and contractor Salado Isolation Mining Contractors will hold a hybrid community forum about the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant starting at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time. The session will originate from the Skeen-Whitlock Building Auditorium on National Parks Highway in Carlsbad, N.M. 

31: Hybrid meeting: The Northern New Mexico Citizens Advisory Board holds a hybrid meeting starting at 1 p.m. Mountain Time. The meeting will be held at the Ohkay Owingeh Conference Center, 68 New Mexico 291, San Juan, New Mexico 87566. For virtual registration, email executive director Bridget Maestras at  [email protected] by 5 p.m. Mountain Time on July 26. 

 

August

01: Markup, Senate Appropriations Committee: Energy and Water Development; Defense; Labor, Health, and Human Services; Homeland Security; and Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Acts. The energy and water bill includes the Department of Energy’s 2025 budget. Washington. Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 106. 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. Streaming online at the committee’s website.

01: Public meeting, Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Restart activities for the potential resumption of power operations at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan. NRC staff to attend. Grand Upton Hall at Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor Mich., and streaming online. 5:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern time.

NEW: Via public records request, I’ve been able to confirm reporting today that a warrant has been issued for DOE deputy asst. secretary of spent fuel and waste disposition Sam Brinton for another luggage theft, this time at Las Vegas’s Harry Reid airport. (cc: @EMPublications)
