TEXAS COMPACT TO CONSIDER IMPORTS, NEW RULES TODAY

By ExchangeMonitor
The Texas Compact Commission will meet today in Austin, Texas to consider several applications for import to Waste Control Specialists’ Andrews, Texas facility. The facility has a brief window to dispose up to 120,000 curies of imported waste before new legislation kicks in and the site’s annual capacity calendar is reset to coincide with the state’s fiscal year, beginning Sept. 1. After September, WCS’ annual imported waste capacity will be set at 275,000 curies. The commission may also discuss its ongoing effort to revise its governing rules. Given the progress at the WCS site, the Texas Compact Commission decided at their June 6 meeting to begin a process of reworking the rules that have governed the body since 2009. Texas Compact Chairman Bob Wilson, Linda Morris and Richard Saudek were named to the rules committee.
