TENN. VALLEY GOVERNMENTS VOICE SUPPORT FOR UPF

By ExchangeMonitor

Modernizing the Y-12 National Security Complex and building the Uranium Processing Facility received a vote of support from the Association of Tennessee Valley Governments last week. The association, which includes more than 200 local Tennessee Valley governments and municipalities, included its endorsement of Y-12 and UPF in a letter to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board that was posted to the Board’s website late last week but dated Dec. 10, when the DNFSB will hold a public meeting on Y-12 and safety in the UPF. “A new UPF combined with the recently constructed highly enriched uranium storage facility will significantly modernize this important federal asset,” ATVG Executive Director N.E. Reed wrote. “It will result in a national security complex that can operate another 70 years with a greatly improved health and safety work environment. This action is important to the local governments of the Tennessee Valley River Region."
