Kentucky-based Swift & Staley appears to be staying on another 22 months as the infrastructure support services contractor at the Department of Energy’s Paducah Site in Kentucky.
The latest summary of major contracts from DOE, dated last Friday, shows Swift & Staley’s term as the services provider at the former gaseous diffusion plant site has been extended until July 30, 2022. The prior summary dated Sept. 21 showed the contract, which started Dec. 1, 2015, was due to expire at the end of last month.
The current value of the Swift & Staley contract, previously worth about $185 million, is now listed at $280 million.
In early December 2018, the DOE announced Swift & Staley was receiving an $88 million, 22-month contract extension to its original three-year base period that kept the contractor around through Sept. 30 of this year.
Paducah-based Swift & Staley has about 120 employees at the 3,500-acre property in Western Kentucky that was previously home to a uranium enrichment complex now undergoing remediation. The contractor provides a host of landlord services including upkeep of buildings, roads, and parking lots, as well as providing training, cybersecurity and records management.
The DOE did not immediately reply to inquiries on the current status of the Swift & Staley contract.
The DOE Office of Environmental Management issued a final request for proposals for a new contract in February but it is unknown when a new longer-term agreement will be issued. Bids were due in March.
