SURVEYS FAVORS CORPORATE-STYLE ORGANIZATION TO HANDLE NUCLEAR WASTE STORAGE

A new survey has found that a majority of Americans would prefer a corporate organization rather than a new independent federal agency to handle a nuclear waste storage facility. The survey, sponsored by the Nuclear Energy Institute, found that 57 percent voted in favor of a corporate organization that would report to a board of directors, while. 37 percent of those polled were in favor of a new federal agency. In previous surveys, the public was split on the issue, the NEI said. The sample size consisted of 1,000 American citizens who answered their phones in early September. According to Bisconti Research President Ann Bisconti, who conducted the survey, “The shift reflects growing lack of public confidence in the federal government’s ability to accomplish anything.”
