Todd Stern, U.S. special envoy for climate change, will leave his position with the State Department on April 1. “For seven years, Todd Stern has helped lead U.S. efforts to address one of the greatest challenges facing the world today, culminating in the historic global climate agreement reached at COP 21 in Paris last year. On behalf of the entire State Department, I extend my profound thanks to Todd for his outstanding service to our nation,” Secretary of State John Kerry said in a State Department release.
Stern will be replaced by Jonathan Pershing, who is currently serving as principal deputy director of the Department of Energy Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis. “While I will miss Jonathan’s wise counsel and good humor, I look forward to continuing to work closely with Secretary Kerry and Jonathan as our Departments work towards domestic and international implementation of the Paris agreement through clean energy solutions,” Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz said in a release.
