Norwegian oil company Statoil will explore the feasibility of carbon storage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf with the support of the country’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The parties signed a contract on Jan. 4, totaling $4 million (USD) for the five-month project. The study will explore three different locations on the continental shelf.

Researching CO2 storage signals Norway’s support for the international climate agreement struck last month in Paris, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Tord Lien said in a press release. “Carbon capture and storage (CCS) will be an important measure in order to mitigate climate change and meet the emission targets under the Paris Agreement,” he said.
