Savannah River Site returned to its normal operations Monday after the site was limited to essential personnel in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, a spokesperson told the ExchangeMonitor.
“Phased resumption of workers returning back to the site began [in the] middle of last week,” the spokesperson told the Monitor in an email. “During the storm itself and immediate aftermath the site was limited to essential personnel due to Hurricane Helene impacts including numerous downed trees.”
The spokesperson added that the primary roads are now clear surrounding the plant. “Cleanup continues on secondary roads and remote areas of the site,” they said.
As of Monday, there are ten deaths attributed to the tropical storm in Aiken, S.C., where Savannah River Site is located, according to South Carolina Public Radio. According to PowerOutage.us, 86% of Aiken county lost power the weekend after the hurricane hit, and 8% were still waiting for it to return by Monday morning.
The spokesperson said that this week, “normal power” is “generally restored.”
