About four dozen people representing a host of security companies and Energy Department contractors attended the Aug. 14 industry day for the new paramilitary services contract for DOE’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
Among the companies represented were current security provider Centerra, BWX Technologies, Wastren Advantage, the Government Training Institute, Paragon Systems, Professional Project Services, E2 Consulting, and Redcon Solutions Group, according to the sign-in sheet posted online last week.
Centerra in 2009 secured the roughly $1 billion contract for security services, which ends on Oct. 7, 2019. Some of the company’s security personal at the Savannah River Site are currently on strike.
The Energy Department’s Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center in July issued the request for information/sources sought for the new contract. Prospective bidders on the new contract have until today to submit responses, to [email protected].
Duties covered by the contract, according to the RFI, encompass preventing unauthorized access, theft, diversion, or loss of custody of special nuclear materials and key facilities at SRS. Contractors will be expected to possess “a thorough knowledge of munitions list items and demilitarization techniques, as outlined in the Defense Demilitarization Manual,” DOE said.
