The Savannah River Site’s security contractor earned $96.1% of its possible award fee from the U.S. Department of Energy for services provided during the first half of fiscal 2019.
Centerra-Savannah River Site brought in just shy of $3.14 million, out of a potential $3.26 million for the period from Oct. 1, 2018, to March 31, 2019.
Overall, DOE rated Florida-based Centerra’s performance as “excellent” at the 310-square-mile site near Aiken, S.C. “During this performance rating period, Centerra-SRS demonstrated the effective and competent execution of the SRS security mission at the site perimeter barricades, law enforcement operations, and at the sensitive national security facilities in the protection of Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) including the following noteworthy achievements,” according to the performance evaluation.
Centerra’s highlights through the first six months of the fiscal year included: responding to more than 2,400 calls for service; issuing more than 1,100 traffic citations and warning tickets; and recovering more than $20,000 in stolen government property. Drug investigations led to the arrest of three workers at the site.
In addition, the contractor conducted more than 61,000 random inspections, and was recognized by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce for having an exemplary lost workday rate. Specifically, employees logged 267 work days and more than 1 million hours without a lost day due to injury.
It was another strong review for Centerra-SRS, which in December pocketed 94% of its potential fee for the second half of fiscal 2018.
Centerra-SRS provides security support services for the Savannah River Site, including access control, property protection, law enforcement, cybersecurity, criminal investigations, and traffic control. Its 10-year, $990 million contract expires on Oct. 7.
Companies interested in acquiring the follow-on 10-year, $1 billion contract have already submitted their proposals. They include Centerra, which aims to stay on board as the SRS security contractor. The Energy Department expects to make a decision by the end of October.
