The National Nuclear Security Administration will by March issue a final request for proposals for managing the Savannah River Site, according to a Dec. 31 notice.
The presolicitation synopsis was posted on the government contracting databases sam.gov and FedConnect just before the New Year.
Jill Hruby, outgoing administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, told the Monitor in November that the final request for proposals would be out by January.
The notice said the upcoming contract would consist of a four-month transition and five-year base period, with options for fifteen additional years. If the contract lasts all 20 years, it has a value of $36 billion.
The current prime for management and operations of Savannah River Site near Aiken, S.C., is the Fluor-led joint venture Savannah River Nuclear Solutions. That contract expires Sept. 30, 2026, meaning the new contract would be projected to begin late January 2027.
Dennis Carr, the chief operating officer of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, told the Monitor in October that parent company Fluor “will be part of that competition” for the follow-on contract. Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, by the end of fiscal year 2026, would have been the prime at Savannah River for 18 years.
