SRNS Seeking Contractor for Materials Management and Distribution

By Alissa Tabirian

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), the management and operations contractor for the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, S.C., is seeking expressions of interest for operation of its materials management and distribution activities, according to a sources sought notice posted Tuesday.

The contract involves shipping, warehousing, inventory accounting, and other logistics work for radiological, nuclear, and other materials received or sent by the site.

The contract is expected to last five to 10 years, and SRNS prefers to award it to a small business, according to the notice. The contract covers work including inventory planning; receiving; tagging; receipt inspection; warehousing; delivery; and off-site shipping of materials including radiological sources, nuclear materials, chemicals, and precious metals.

The contractor would also help implement the storage program, which involves annually receiving about 135,000 shipments of equipment and material and storing in climate controlled facilities around 800,000 cubic feet of items.

Interested parties should email Barbara Tuthill at [email protected] by June 21.

SRNS plans to develop a list of parties that will then receive a request for proposals, which will not be subject to full and open competition, the notice said. The selection of parties receiving the request for proposals “will not be based on any set of objective criteria,” according to SRNS.

SRNS did not respond to questions on the total value of the contract, the date it expects to release a request for proposals, and the expected contract award date.
