Savannah River site management and operating contractor Savannah River Nuclear Solutions earned 84 percent of its total available award fee in Fiscal Year 2013, netting about $47 million out of $56 million available. The contractor did best in its Office of Environmental Management Programs, earning about $30.7 million, or 96 percent of the fee available. It took a bigger hit in National Nuclear Security Administration projects, earning 68 percent of available fee, or about $16.3 million. “SRNS continues to deliver strong operating performance in environmental management and cleanup while maintaining the highest standards of safety, safeguards and security,” states a Dec. 18 letter from the Department of Energy to the contractor released yesterday. It notes that “SRNS overcame significant challenges in FY 2013 turning national and global events into opportunities,” highlighting its responsive budget management.
However, DOE noted several issues during FY 2013. “An increasing trend of adverse events related to Conduct of Operations and Integrated Safety management failures was noted.” Additionally’ SRNS’ Earned Value Management System “did not demonstrate adequate compliance with emerging project management standards, resulting in the suspension of your EVMS certification.” Regarding NNSA programs, it also noted issues with the Waste Solidification Building project as well as preparation of Mixed Oxide feedstock at H-Canyon.
