The National Nuclear Security Administration has awarded SOC, LLC a contract for security protective force services at the Nevada National Security Site and the agency’s field office facilities, NNSA announced Wednesday.
The contract is valued at roughly $202.9 million over 5 years, with all options, for security at the Nevada site; the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base; and the North Las Vegas Complex.
SOC will provide patrol services and protection for facilities and nuclear materials used in stockpile stewardship experiments and criticality safety training at the Nevada site, NNSA said in its announcement. An early solicitation for the contract outlined an authorized force strength of 180 security police officers and 24 duty officers.
SOC’s partners on the contract are Protection Strategies Inc. for performance testing and Human Reliability Program support; Longenecker and Associates for contractor assurance and environment, safety and health work; and MCH Corporation for IT services support. The transition period will be completed at the end of July, NNSA said.
Centerra Group currently holds the site’s protective force services contract, worth $235 million since December 2011. NNSA released a request for proposals last December for a new contract that would feature a one-year base period until May 2018, followed by four single-year option periods through the end of May 2022.
SOC previously served as the primary security contractor at the Los Alamos National Laboratory – a contract that Centerra Group took over in December 2015.
The NNSA also awarded in mid May the management and operations contract for the Nevada site to Mission Support and Test Services LLC, a partnership of Honeywell International, Jacobs Engineering Group, and Stoller Newport News Nuclear, following an initial announcement and then cancellation of a contract award to a Lockheed Martin subsidiary months before.
