The Senate Appropriations Committee planned to mark up Thursday its version of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s 2025 budget, the committee announced.
The full committee markup was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Eastern time in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, room 106. The Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2025 is one of five pieces of legislation scheduled for debate and vote during the Senate session, including a bill that would fund the Department of Defense and the Pentagon’s nuclear forces.
As of Wednesday, the committee had not published the text or language of its DOE budget bill.
If the Senate committee meeting goes as planned Thursday, all 12 appropriations bills will be ready for the floor once the full Senate returns from August recess.
Meanwhile, the House left for scheduled recess last week without voting on its version of the 2025 energy and water appropriations bill, when the 2024 fiscal year ends Oct 1. After debating on the floor on over 60 amendments, House Republicans could not rally enough votes to secure the majority.
“When Congress reconvenes in September, it is time for Republicans to join Democrats to quickly adopt bipartisan spending bills,” Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, said in a statement last week.
