SELLAFIELD LTD. TAKES A HIT IN FEE, EARNING £39 MILLION

By ExchangeMonitor

Sellafield Limited, the site license company for the U.K.’s Sellafield site, reported that it earned £39 million in fee for the year ending last March for an after tax profit of £29 million, a significant hit compared to the previous year. The previous period it earned £59 million in fee for a profit of £42 million. “The drop in the amount of fee earned in 2012/13 reflects targets which were missed in our spent fuel management, waste management programme and Legacy Ponds and Silos,” states Sellafield Ltd’s annual report. It adds,“The amount of fee earned from the delivery of efficiencies was restricted in both 2012/13 and 2011/12 by the performance of various major projects, including the Evaporator D project. However, we continued to meet the support and overhead cost reduction targets set by the NDA.”

Sellafield Ltd. is managed by the parent-body organization Nuclear Management Partners, led by URS. The company highlighted progress in several areas, including a number of projects completed in preparation of fuel and sludge retrieval at the site’s legacy ponds and silos, and the transition of the Capenhurst site to Urenco. Sellafield Ltd Managing Director Tony Price said in a statement, “The Sellafield Ltd workforce and wider supply chain teams delivered some good work in 2012/13 but there is still more that we need to do. Making demonstrable progress in our Legacy Ponds and Silos and continuing to deliver safe site stewardship is what I and my executive team will be focusing on.”
