SAVANNAH RIVER TO CLOSE ADDITIONAL BARRICADES

The Savannah River Site will close two additional entrance barricades tonight as a result of the government shutdown and will reduce staffing at two more barricades. Site security contractor Wackenhut Services Incorporated has been undertaking furloughs this week of 270 of its 706 employees, and the site shut down two barricades Sunday night. Effective midnight tonight, two more barriers will be closed and two others will have reduced staffing levels and lane closures at their entrances, according to DOE Savannah River spokesman Bill Taylor. “Employees should exercise caution when approaching the barricades and expect delays during shift change hours,” Taylor said in a written response.
