A longtime federal manager, Jimmy “Mac” McMillian, retires Feb. 29 an advisory board for the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina heard Monday.
McMillian, a member of senior executive service, has been assistant manager for infrastructure and environmental stewardship for Savannah River’s DOE Environmental Management office since February 2019. The “sad news” of McMillian’s retirement was reported to the Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board by Michael Budney, who heads the site’s federal nuclear cleanup office.
McMillian is “working right up until the last day trying to get some carbon-free energy” for Savannah River, as part of DOE’s Cleanup to Clean Energy program, Budney said.
The departing McMillian came to Savannah River from the DOE Office of Environmental Management’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., according to his bio. He retired from the Air Force in 2009 after 31 years of service, including roles as director of security forces, and deputy chief of staff for logistics.
In other personnel matters, Citizens Advisory Board Chair Gregg Murray and Vice Chair Charles Hilton, among others, are ending their terms on the advisory panel this week at the conclusion of the two-day meeting in Augusta, Ga. The advisory board meeting is webcast via youtube.
